The Darkness – I believe in a thing called love

For no particular reason

February 12 – Soundie – What the country needs

The Third day of Valentine’s Day Week. A soundie “What the country needs.”

Note the words about the war.

Look at the folks across the sea,
they are all at war today.
There’d be no war across the sea
if the people would rise and say
What the country needs is
more moonlight,
more feminine charms
in masculine arms,
that’s just what the country needs.

For those stuck on fighting and killing all the evils of the world (even those still stuck in WWII thinking) consider these words. Even if you think that giving Hitler a hug is a dumb idea (and that is not what I am saying we should do or should have done) consider that you are stuck in the wrong mindset.

Think about it, Hitler felt certain people were standing in his way, so he killed them. Now you want to kill those who stand in your way? Seems like the same mindset to me. No arguing from me on this post. It is Valentine’s Day Week and I do not want to argue about my pacifism today. Some other time maybe. Today I will enjoy the moonlight.

[And I realize the heterosexual bent this song takes, I am arguing for the principle of the song, not the letter.]

White Snake – Is this love?

I really don’t know anything.

February 11 – Soundie – Surrender

Day two of Valentine’s Day Week. Another soundie called “Surrender” with someone who may or may not be Perry Como.

Bob Dylan – I want you

For reasons that are obvious to me.

February 10 – Soundie – I can’t give you anything but love

It is Valentine’s Day week. A soundie for you. Carolyn Marsh with Ray Bloch and His Orchestra performing “I can’t give you anything but love.”

Stated Intent v. Reality

Does a group whose stated purpose is to “promote a life without religion or superstition” fit into the list below? Is “promotion” the same as “proselytization?” In my opinion, if the Laurier Freethought Alliance were to remove the line referring to promoting their beliefs and stuck with what they argue their intention is, then there would be nothing to quibble about.

The group says they meet to discuss topics among themselves. Conversion, so it appears, is not their goal. As such this group should be an official Campus Club. As long as they aim to proselytize the group should not.
