Several things have become apparent to me in the last while. The first is that everything can be presented as a list. The second is that the list can be alphabetical. Third, I love my Ipod. Fourth, my music can be displayed alphabetically. And Fifthly, too many people do not understand the definition of cool or hip and therefore get them confused. I hope this list will help.
Here is what I have been listening to lately. Everything on this list is just great. If you have any suggestions for the missing letters (one for Z – pronounced Zed – two for Q and one for X) I would be more than willing to give it a listen. But check out the list. You may find that you are neither hip or cool, or you are both. You may also learn that we are not that different afterall.

One comment
I found your division of hip/cool an interesting one.
glad to see both mark knopfler and radiohead on that list.
and i agree. cool, not hip. both of them.
i don’t always agree with the idea of dichotomies…mostly because i’ve been trying to escape them for much of my life…
does cool mean more ‘of the moment’ than hip does…or visa versa?
as in, hip is more long lasting than cool is…hence paul anka, velvet underground, tom waits etc…
because in that case, i think my good friends Radiohead should be added to the hip list. as well as the Tragically Hip.
(to be painfully honest.)
I would also like to add Beck, Ben Folds, Cat Power, Elton John, Flaming Lips, Moby, Queen, and Sigur Ros to this list…although in which category, i’m not entirely sure.
I enjoyed this post most of all.
that’s what i’m really writing to say.
